Brewarrina Shire Council was constituted a municipality in 1955. It operates under numerous Acts and Regulations. The main Act is the Local Government Act.
Twelve councillors represent the municipality and its 2500 residents. These councillors meet monthly on the fourth Wednesday to conduct business.
